Education or the difference in the youths

Image
There is this feeling of unfamiliarity when it comes to college regardless of whatever country. While such differences like high school and middle school are well discussed in popular media and in general, for something like college i feel like it is more obscure. This blog would be semi a report of what i have seen with college students and teachers in Japan of my time here. The various details and anecdotes are from a western point of view so do take it with a grain of salt.     First of all, we need to discuss the western point of view. The first thing that stand out the most is the monetization of the industry. The schools compete on who offers the most abundant resources and promotes the college through said notoriety and resources. students than compete to enter said schools. however, for most that does not mean the end all and be all for them. they still have to compete within the said college for opportunity to use the resources that the college offered. ...

Working abroad

I think I am getting to that age now that work culture has become more and more apparent to me. Working in the United States is interesting in that whether you improve or feel comfortable at work is kind of down to the luck of the draw and how well we you sell yourself . Being unable to sell yourself is usually a death mark. In that aspect the economy rewards ambition. On another hand it is just as cruel. Work is individualized as what your work is that is your responsibility and if you do poorly there no one will be willing to help or teach you. It kinda expected in companies to be able to work a portion of work on your own. Results matter most Japan is different. It is like choosing a seniority group. Unlike such a group it is going to dictate your next 20-30 years. Once you go in there is little you can do to go elsewhere. If you did well and choose well and get a job you like, you will feel safe for the a good portion of your life. Otherwise it may mean hell for  the fore...

The hierarchy of sleep

Sleep is something most of us have come to accept as necessary especially as we grow older. I still remember the times where we bedtimes were still regulated, and we would always whine about wanting to stay up late. Of course, that was a time before the responsibilities that came with adulthood. Despite being adults that are still unwritten rules of conduct that demands so much of our time. Sometimes those rules are more important than personal health in some ways. it is interesting how different people evaluate their sleep in different ways.       In my own culture the saying goes as "go to bed early wake up early". The saying reflects this idea of a orderly schedule. However, that isn't always the case for me. Sleeping early often causes me to forget things more often as I tend to sleep deeply and thus further breaking up certain flows in moods and progress. contrasting this with Japan's sleep culture i feel like it is less obligatory but rathe...

Introduction to Eroges/Visual novels

Image
What are Eroges/Visual novels?     Gaming is quite common everywhere now. Most youths have played some form of video games may it be shooters, platformers or action games. like those Visual novels/Eroge are a genre of its own. However, this is not as nearly widely known as the other video game genre. For this reason, i hope to be able to introduce you to this unique type of gaming.     Visual or Eroges are actually a derivative of the adventure genre of games. However, unlike most adventure games they are less focus on the gameplay, but more on the narrative of the game. Like the name suggest the game is often comparable to that of a novel, but with a strong emphasis on strong visual and audio components.  Gameplay Elements     Visual novels are development of the text-based adventure games that were popular for PCs back in the 80s. Even to this day many of the visual novel is text based and is released for PC users in mind. Though through the y...

Cultural Awareness

Image
When we first meet someone what is the first few things we tend to notice? Their gender perhaps or the way they dress. Or perhaps the way they speak. it often the things that we are not use to that we are the most drawn towards. That is just how we work. repeated exposure to the same stimulus has a tendency to dull our senses. This extends out of just personal preferences and out towards the certain cultures in general. For example, the tipping culture is not something shared by all countries in fact a lot of people find this action weird.      This is fine however as this the natural reaction to things. However, reactions to these changes depending on the circumstances. For example, a foreigner who has never tipped ever in their life comes to America and sees that tip jar. what would be the most natural response for the situation? The odd adage goes "When in rome" but is that really the case? i have seen plenty of people wh...
